A legal battle is unfolding within Lagos’ royal and traditional institutions as Prince Abiola Olojo Kosoko, the Oloja-elect of Lagos, has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.  The suit, currently before the Federal High Court in Lagos, underscores an escalating dispute over land ownership in the Ogombo area of Eti-Osa Local Council as well as succession to the prestigious Oloja of Lagos chieftaincy title, traditionally reserved for the Kosoko royal family. Kosoko, in a detailed affidavit, accused Oba Akiolu of abusing his influence as the paramount ruler of Lagos and a retired senior police officer to intimidate, harass, and destabilise his family through repeated police actions.    The naira has continued appreciation against the d The Central Bank of Nigeria’s exchange data showed that the naira firmed up slightly to N1,535.04 against the dollar on Friday from  However, at the black market, the naira remained flat at N1,550 on Friday, the same rate recorded the previous day. A week-on-week analysis of the performance of Nigeria’s currency showed that the naira lost N2.53, or 0.17 percent, at the official market when compared to N1,532.51 traded on 15th August 2025. But the naira appreciated by N10, or 0.65 percent, at the black market to N1,550 per dollar this Friday, up from N1,560 last week Friday. The development comes as the country’s external reserves continued to surge and stood at $41.08 billion as of August 21, 2025, according to CBN data. One killed as car slams into commercial bus in Lagos

    The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) intervened on Monday in a serious road traffic accident involving a Toyota Highlander Jeep (APP 150 EY) and a painted T4 commercial bus (KJA 328 XH), which occurred in the early hours at Volkswagen, inward Mile 2, Lagos. Preliminary findings revealed that the tragedy occurred when the Highlander Jeep, travelling at an excessive and perilous speed, lost control and collided with great force into a stubborn commercial bus that was illegally stationed along the roadside while indiscriminately picking up passengers at the said location. The driver of the Highlander Jeep perished instantly at the scene of impact. Responding with remarkable swiftness to the accident, LASTMA personnel promptly secured the accident scene, extricated the lifeless body from the mangled wreckage, and formally handed over the remains to operatives of the Ojo Police Division.
