FIRS is one of the tenants occupying the towers, with our Medium Tax Audit and Onikan Emerging Tax Office housed on the sixth and seventh floors. 2027: Obi, Rhodes-Vivour, others in fresh talks with Obasanjo, Olubadan designate
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Olubadan designate, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, in what political observers see as part of his widening consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meetings with Obasanjo and the Olubadan designate were, however, said to have been held separately.
Obi’s delegation comprised the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko; Labour Party’s former Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; and party chieftain, Segun Adebanjo.
In a statement he posted on his official X account, the former Anambra governor disclosed that the parley centred on the state of the nation and the need to foster unity, fairness, justice, and love among Nigerians. Describing Jonathan as his “elder brother, a statesman, and leader,” Obi said their engagement was “fruitful” and focused on the challenges confronting the nation.
Although details of the latest discussions remain undisclosed, the back-to-back visits underscore Obi’s sustained outreach to political heavyweights since his strong third-place finish in the 2023 presidential race—a performance that disrupted Nigeria’s two-party dominance.
Obasanjo, who openly backed Obi during the last election, remains an influential figure in Nigeria’s political calculus, while Jonathan has in recent years assumed the role of an elder statesman mediating conflicts and promoting democracy across Africa.
With President Bola Tinubu facing mounting criticism over the country’s economic and political trajectory, Sunday’s engagements in Ibadan may further stoke speculation of new alliances taking shape as the nation inches closer to another electoral cycle.
Attempts to get clarification from Obi’s media aide, Umar Ibrahim and former campaign spokesman, Tanko, proved unsuccessful as calls and messages were not returned as of press time.

After Kirk’s Killing, Suspect Joked That His ‘Doppelganger’ Did It
Before he was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assassination, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson sent friends messages showing that he was closely following news about the killing. in a group chat.
The F.B.I. had just released two grainy surveillance images of a skinny young man in a cap and sunglasses walking in a stairwell on the Utah Valley University campus, and had asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
Tagging Mr. Robinson’s username on Discord, a messaging platform, the acquaintance attached the images and wrote “wya” — where you at? — with a skull emoji, suggesting that Mr. Robinson, 22, looked like the man being sought.
Mr. Robinson replied within a minute. His “doppelganger,” he wrote, was trying to “get me in trouble.”
“Tyler killed Charlie!!!!” another user wrote, apparently in jest.
That was on Thursday afternoon, around 1 p.m. local time. It was not until later that night, nearly 34 hours after the shooting, that Mr. Robinson was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the assassination of Mr. Kirk, 31, a conservative pundit whose killing has inflamed the political world.
The Discord messages were the clearest glimpse yet of the suspect’s demeanor in the hours after the killing. They were shared with The New York Times by someone who knew Mr. Robinson in high school and has kept up with him in the group chat — which includes about 20 people — but said he had not seen Mr. Robinson in person for several years. He spoke on the condition that his name not be used, fearing harassment for being an acquaintance of the suspect.

A situation he described as worrisome.
Ndume advocated for Armed Community Defence to continue in complementing efforts of the military, stressing that men of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters and vigilantes have been doing their best, but they have limitations, as they only carry den guns, sticks, which makes it very difficult to confront the terrorists.

We already have plans on how to redevelop Lagos Island and soon we will have a stakeholders meeting. We will give all the support for the project to be completed,” he said. The Chairman of Lagos Island Local Council Development Area, Folawiyo Alade, said the mall would bring back the glory of Lagos Island.
“We are bringing back the glory of Lagos Island. The duration for the construction is within a year. We chose the location for the mall because it’s beside the expressway coming from the Third Mainland Bridge and also on the road to the palace of Oba Akiolu.”

Published by MorufAkanbi oloyede Sulaimon ~~ The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai has asked the international community to remain committed to the principles of the United Nations, resist unilateralism, and ensure that “the tragedy of fascism is never repeated.”
“Together, let us strive to steer the global order toward a future defined by greater fairness, justice, and equality for all.”
Yu however noted that Nigeria plays an important role in this vision, stressing that as two major countries of the Global South, China and Nigeria share common values of fairness, justice, and development.
He said their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, must continue to grow through stronger political dialogue, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people cooperation.
The envoy added that: “Cinema has the power to tell history in ways textbooks cannot. By watching, reflecting, and remembering, we reaffirm our shared humanity and our collective responsibility to build a more peaceful world.”Yu made the request in Abuja at the screening of the firm, Dead to Rights, to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Dead to Rights, is a movie that dramatized the 1937 Nanjing Massacre.
The Chinese Ambassador described the massacre where Japanese forces brutally killed more than 300,000 civilians and soldiers and committed widespread atrocities as “one of the darkest chapters in modern world history.”
He said the film served not only as remembrance but also as a reminder of the dangers of forgetting history.
He noted that: “During the 14 years of resistance, over 35 million Chinese people lost their lives or were injured. China made historic contributions to the victory of the world anti-fascist war and to restoring world peace and order.”
The Ambassador while emphasizing the anniversary was not only about mourning the dead but also about reinforcing commitments to peace, said: “The best way to honour their sacrifice is to cherish peace, protect peace, and strengthen international cooperation.”
He also warned against the rise of historical revisionism and global instability, stressing that the international community must remain committed to the principles of the United Nations, resist unilateralism, and ensure that “the tragedy of fascism is never repeated.”
He recalled that: “In 1931, driven by militarism, Japan launched a brutal war of aggression against China. Then, on December 13, 1937, after capturing the city of Nanjing, Japanese invaders carried out a horrific massacre that lasted six weeks.
“More than 300,000 Chinese civilians and soldiers were killed—a tragedy now known as the Nanjing Massacre. This remains one of the darkest chapters in modern world history and a profound, enduring sorrow in the hearts of the Chinese people.
“The film we are about to watch, Dead to Rights, is inspired by these historical events. It offers a unique perspective for reflecting on this period and reminds us of a history we must never forget.”
The envoy added that: “During World War II, as the main Eastern theatre in the global fight against fascism, China endured 14 years of relentless resistance. At a staggering cost of more than 35 million military and civilian casualties and direct economic losses exceeding 600 billion US dollars, we dealt a powerful blow to Japanese fascism, crippled Japan’s ambition to expand further, and made historic contributions to restoring world peace and order.
“Today, we gather to commemorate this great victory—to honor history, pay tribute to the fallen, cherish peace, and build a brighter future together. Let history be our guide. Let us preserve, with unwavering resolve, the hard-won outcomes of World War II.
“At this critical juncture, it falls upon us to reaffirm our commitment to the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law, and the basic norms of international relations embodied in the UN Charter.

Slot takes aim at Arsenal’s transfer policy
Arsenal’s trip to Merseyside ended in disappointment, as they fell to a 1–0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield. Much has been said about the result, but one thing is clear, Arsenal should have done better. Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes Arsenal ought to be further along in their development. His post-match comments have piled pressure on Mikel Arteta and his technical staff.
Slot takes aim at Arsenal’s transfer policy
“It’s very positive that we haven’t brought in 27, 28, 29-year-olds that are already, like Luis DÃaz, in the prime of their career, if you want to call it,” Slot said as per the BBC.
“We bring in very promising, very talented, very good players, but they will need time to adapt to the Premier League, and then already having nine points is very positive.”
From those remarks, it is hard not to feel that Slot was implying Arsenal have opted for ready-made players, signings expected to hit the ground running. Viktor Gyokeres (27), Eberechi Eze (27), and Christian Nørgaard (31) are among the experienced names Arsenal brought in this summer, in what many consider one of their best transfer windows.

According to the agency, the deceased included two men, three women, and a child. The nine survivors, comprising three men and six women, were rescued by LASTMA officials with support from other emergency responders and taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, and Hammond Hospital for treatment.

He added that the rescue operation was jointly carried out with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), ensuring quick evacuation and the restoration of order at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck loaded with wooden planks and a white commercial bus (AKD 336 YD), and was caused by excessive speeding and reckless driving.
